The Golden Compass
Not going to say much, but... where would genre films be without Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen?

Christopher Lee looked a little bit off his game, I thought. My friend who saw it with me commented that it looked like he had had a stroke or something.

...and was it just me who noticed that "Svalbard. Home of the Ice Bears" was said with exactly the same rhythm and intonation as "Rohan. Home of the Horse Lords"?

...and one more thing... Svalbard, on the map they showed, is an ISLAND. Yet everyone seemed to come upon it after crossing mountains or undertaking other overland excursions.

(and don't even get me started on left-behind but suddenly re-appearing armour...)

It's not just you. I had a vague undercurrent of LotR in a lot of the movie (that was the only really obvious one).

Seth was saying that maybe it was magic armour that came when he called it...

I have to confess that I still haven't seen the film. However, I'm hoping to catch it some time in the next couple of weeks. I haven't read the book and often miss things like disappearing and re-appearing armour, so I think there's a good chance that I'll like the film. Hell, I figure Daniel Craig alone should make it worth my while! *g*

I did enjoy the movie, even with wondering how the armour appeared so fast. At least, it's a heck of a better adaptation than Dark is Rising was. Of course, it would be hard to be worse.
